MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting on Wednesday with Lebanese Ambassador to Moscow Chawki Bou Nassar, and the sides discussed the situation in Syria and the problem of Syrian refugees, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The sides discussed in detail the current situation in Lebanon and Syria. Special attention was paid to the problem of Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon and their return home within the well known Russian initiative," the ministry's statement said.

Syria has been devastated by years of violent civil war which had prompted millions of people to flee hostilities from the areas where they lived to other locations in Syria and outside the country. Lebanon has taken in over 1 million Syrian refugees over the several years of armed conflict in Syria.

The Russian Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees was created in late July as part of Moscow's assistance to Syria in the process of the country's transition to peaceful life.

Hundreds of Syrian refugees return from neighboring Lebanon to their homes on the daily basis.
