The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society said that it had rescued 196 migrants in the Strait of Gibraltar on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society said that it had rescued 196 migrants in the Strait of Gibraltar on Wednesday.
"Today, 196 people off eight boats were rescued in the Strait [of Gibraltar]," the rescue service said on Twitter.
According to the agency, two of the rescued, who were in serious condition, were transported to the town of Tarifa in the province of Cadiz.
According to the International Organization for Migration, 27,994 migrants arrived in Spain in the period between January 1 and August 26. The number of arrivals almost tripled compared to the 10,039 arrivals in the same period of 2017.
