Iranian Earthquake Death Toll Rises To 3, Over 240 Injured - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th August, 2018) The number of victims in the earthquake in western Iran increased to three and another 243 were injured, local media reported Sunday.

Earlier in the day, media reported that two people died and were 232 injured.

According to the Mehr news agency, eight villages in the province of Kermanshah were also left without electricity as a result of the earthquake, with water supplies interrupted in many parts of the province.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged the country's interior minister and Kermanshah province governor in a telephone conversation to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the earthquake and to set up help centers for them.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 6.0-magnitude quake hitting Iran's Kermanshah Province, located near the Iraqi border, at 22.13 GMT on Saturday. According to Iraqi media, the earthquake was also felt in Baghdad and several northeastern provinces of Iraq.
