Syrian Diplomat Says Damascus to Open Embassy in South Ossetia in Near Future

Syria is set to open its embassy in the partially-recognized state of South Ossetia in the near future and the exact date is yet to be announced, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said on Saturday.

TSKHINVALI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) Syria is set to open its embassy in the partially-recognized state of South Ossetia in the near future and the exact date is yet to be announced, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said on Saturday.

"As for building a Syrian embassy in South Ossetia, we have signed, as you know, an agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations and on the exchange of embassies. At the moment, we are doing everything possible to make it happen. I cannot give you an exact date but I can say that we will open the embassy in the near future," Haddad told reporters at a press conference.

Syria recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late May.
