UPDATE - Weakened Hurricane Lane Remains Threat To Hawaii - Monitor

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) Hurricane Lane has weakened to a Category 1 storm but continues to creep on Hawaiis third largest island of Oahu, the US National Weather Service said.

"Lane weakening quickly just south of Hawaii but flooding, rainfall and strong gusty winds remain a threat," the agency said.

The Pacific storm packs winds of 85 miles per hour. Lanes slow motion will cause prolonged heavy rainfall and life-threatening inland flooding and landslides across the islands this weekend.

US President Donald Trump said in a tweet he had spoken to Hawaiian Gov. David Ige to express full support for the people of the state.

"The Federal Government is fully committed to helping the people of Hawaii," the president added.

President Trump declared emergency in the state earlier this week. He said in a statement that everyone in the hurricanes path should prepare themselves and heed the warnings of local authorities.
