(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) The Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank will suffer directly because of President Donald Trumps decision to redirect $200 million away from US aid programs for them, Senator Patrick Leahy said in a press release.
"It is the Palestinian people, virtual prisoners in an increasingly volatile conflict, who will most directly suffer the consequences of this callous and ill-advised attempt to respond to Israels security concerns," Leahy said in the release on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Trump ordered the Department of State to redirect $200 million in funding away from programs to aid Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
However, the US president still has lacks any "coherent" policy to deal with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Leahy said.
"After a year and eight months in office, President Trump has yet to announce anything remotely resembling a coherent policy to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Instead, the White House has engaged in a series of provocative and harmful acts which have exacerbated tensions," Leahy said.
Inhabitants of Gaza are already suffering severe hardships both from Hamas and from border restrictions imposed by Israel, Leahy noted.
