Red Cross Sends 6 Trucks With Humanitarian Aid To Donbas - Ukrainian Border Service

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has sent six trucks with humanitarian aid to the conflict-torn region of Donbas, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service's press service said on Friday.

"Six vehicles with humanitarian aid - 6.4 tonnes of building materials from the International Committee of the Red Cross - have crossed into temporally occupied territory of Ukraine through the Novotroitske crossing checkpoint," the press release read.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.

In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
