Kazakhstan, India Sign Memorandum On Peacekeeping Mission In Lebanon - Defense Ministry

ASTANA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Kazakhstan and India signed a memorandum on the participation of Kazakh peacekeepers as part of Indian force in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, the Kazakh Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Kazakh lawmakers in mid-June backed President Nursultan Nazarbayev's proposal to send up to 120 troops to southern Lebanon to ensure peace in the country in the wake of the 2006 conflict with Israel.

"The signing of a memorandum between the governments of Kazakhstan and India on joint deployment of Kazakh peacekeepers as part of Indian battalion in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon took place at the National Military and Patriotic Center of the Kazakh Armed Forces," the statement read.

The memorandum establishes a legal foundation for Kazakh peacekeepers' participation in the UN mission, according to the statement.
