Ukraine Appeals WTO Ruling On Ammonium Nitrate Imports Case Against Russia - Statement

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Ukraine has lodged an appeal with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in its case against Russia on the anti-dumping measures imposed by Ukraine on imports of ammonium nitrate from Russia, the WTO said on Thursday.

In July, the WTO dispute panel upheld most of Russia's claims on Ukraine's violation of the WTO anti-dumping agreement.

"Ukraine filed an appeal on 23 August against a WTO panel report in the case brought by the Russian Federation in 'Ukraine Anti-Dumping Measures on Ammonium Nitrate' (DS493)," the panel said in a statement.

In 2014, Ukraine tripled import duties on Russian ammonium nitrate from about 12 percent to about 36 percent, citing gas price discrepancies between domestic chemical plants and Russian manufacturers as the reason for its decision. In May 2015, Russia initiated a case against Ukraine in the WTO.

Ammonium nitrate is used in agriculture as a fertilizer and in mining as an explosive component.
