UPDATE - Air France Says Cancels All Flights To Tehran Starting September 18

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) National carrier Air France cancels all flights to Tehran starting September 18, a company representative told Sputnik Thursday.

"We are canceling flights to Tehran for economic reasons starting September 18. The number of [ticket] bookings does not meet our expectations," the representative said adding that the destination ceased to be profitable.

The representative noted that Tehran was airline's only destination in Iran after flights were resumed in 2016.

The Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) have also decided to drop flight to the Iranian capital.

"Hi! Starting from September 24 2018 KLM will suspend its flights to Tehran, Iran. This decision has been made for commercial reasons. If you have booked a flight to Tehran departing on or after September 24, 2018 you will of course be rebooked to the most suitable alternative," the airline tweeted.

British Airways will also cancel the flights with the last one scheduled for September 23.

Iran is currently facing the reintroduction of US sanctions. Part of the restrictions against Iran went into force earlier this month, while the second portion is expected to take effect in the fall. In May, US President Donald Trump said that the United States would leave Iran's nuclear deal, which stipulated that Tehran should ensure the peaceful nature of its missile program in exchange for gradual lifting of the international sanctions.
