ATHENS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras hopes to visit Russia until the end of the year and expects to restore bilateral Greek-Russian relations amid the diplomatic row, two government sources told Sputnik.

In July, Greece expelled two Russian diplomats and banned two more from entering Greece over national security concerns. Russia refuted the accusations, with Russian Ambassador to Greece Andrey Maslov calling them "absurd." In response, Russia expelled two Greek diplomats.

"Tsipras believes that what happened, happened, we must leave it behind. We need to restore relations with Russia, leave behind what has happened and move forward in our relations. The Greek prime minister wants to visit Moscow before the end of the year," the source said.

Another source said that the visit could take place in November.

"The trip is being discussed, it will take place, most likely, in November, as planned," the source said.
