The United States has frozen hundreds of millions of dollars in Russian assets under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) so far, Acting Deputy Treasury Secretary Sigal Mandelker said in a congressional hearing on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) The United States has frozen hundreds of millions of Dollars in Russian assets under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) so far, Acting Deputy Treasury Secretary Sigal Mandelker said in a congressional hearing on Tuesday.

"Our sanctions have blocked hundreds of millions of dollars in Russian assets in the United States and caused extensive damage to the economic interests of affected individuals and entities," Mandelker told the US Senate Banking Committee.

Mandelker said the Treasury Department's sanctions program against Russia is among the most "active and impactful" and the punitive measures against Russia's companies and individuals not only remain in place since President Donald Trump took office but have also been tightened.

The Treasury Department is also utilizing anti-money laundering measures, enforcement actions, foreign engagement and private sector cooperation, Mandelker noted.

Russia continues to engage in malign activity and poses a threat to the United States, especially ahead of the 2018 midterm election, she added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Treasury Department added to the sanctioned list two Russian nationals and three Russian companies.
