US Urges Venezuela to Allow Humanitarian Aid Flow for People in Need - Pence

The United States calls on the government of Venezuela to let the flow of humanitarian assistance into the country, US Vice President Mike Pence said in a statement on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The United States calls on the government of Venezuela to let the flow of humanitarian assistance into the country, US Vice President Mike Pence said in a statement on Monday.

"We call on the regime to return freedom and democracy to Venezuela and to allow aid into the country to help those suffering," Pence said via Twitter.

Pence stressed the people of Venezuela have struggled enough under the government of President Nicolas Maduro who continues to tyrannize his country.

Pence refereed to the data collected by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that suggests inflation in Venezuela could reach a 1,000,000 percent in 2018.

On Sunday, the Wall Street Journal published an article describing a monetary meltdown in Venezuela. The article noted that despite Maduro rolled out a new economic recuperation plan, the Venezuelan central bank would be still ran by the same government.

Venezuela has been struggling with political and economic fallout of a global slump in oil prices and US sanctions after the United States blocked its investors from buying Venezuelan debt. It also prohibited dealing in Venezuelan digital currencies.
