Apple Suspends 25,000 Illegal Gambling Apps in China After State Media Backlash - Reports

Apple Inc. has eliminated 25,000 illegal gambling applications for mobile phones in China following criticism from state media outlets, a US newspaper reported on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Apple Inc. has eliminated 25,000 illegal gambling applications for mobile phones in China following criticism from state media outlets, a US newspaper reported on Monday.

The US tech giant also removed developers who tried to distribute gambling software on App Store, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a statement provided by the company.

Last week, a number of government-owned Chinese media outlets criticized Apple for allowing fake lottery-ticket apps which resulted in massive losses.

Apple's latest earnings report showed that China remains the company's second largest source of revenue. Moreover, a large portion of the company's supply chain is still in China.

The events involving Apple come amid an escalating trade war between the United States and China. President Donald Trump has been tightening regulations on Chinese imports and increasing tariffs on goods from China, prompting Beijing to introduce reciprocal measures.
