US Serviceman Killed, Several Others Injured in Helicopter Crash in Iraq - Reports

At least one US serviceman was killed as a result of a helicopter crash in Iraq, local media reported on Monday.

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) At least one US serviceman was killed as a result of a helicopter crash in Iraq, local media reported on Monday.

Several other US soldiers sustained injuries as a result of the incident, Al Sumaria broadcaster reported.

The cause of the crash is currently being established, the news outlet added.

The information about the crash was later confirmed by Col. Sean Ryan, the spokesman for the US Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR).

"One Coalition service member was killed and several injured when their aircraft crashed at approximately 10 p.m. GMT Aug. 19 in Iraq," Ryan said in a tweet, adding that the incident was not caused by enemy fire.

The OIR spokesman also extended his condolences to the family of the killed soldier.

The OIR refers to the US-led coalition's military actions against the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) in Iraq and Syria. The coalition's strikes in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government.
