KHABAROVSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th August, 2018) Russias United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), together with the Russian Defense Ministry, will begin the development of a new transport aircraft, which will replace the An-124 Ruslan (NATO reporting name: Condor), UAC President Yury Slyusar said.
"This is the project that [the UAC] and the Defense Ministry will start developing this year," Slyusar said, as aired on the Rossiya 1 broadcaster.
The An-124 strategic airlifter will still be operated for many years and its modernization is underway within the import substitution process, the UAC chief added.
�An-124 was developed in the first half of the 1980s by the Antonov design bureau in cooperation with leading Soviet research institutes, enterprises, aviation industry organizations and ministries.
