MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th August, 2018) A storm travelling through the Pacific strengthened on Friday night to become a category 3 hurricane, the US National Hurricane Center said.
"Lane is now a category 3 hurricane," the NHC said in a public advisory. "Additional strengthening is expected during the next 12 hours or so."
The storm packs winds of nearly 120 miles per hour and could intensify to a category 4 on Friday or Saturday, with more fluctuations in intensity expected over the weekend.
The hurricane is currently to the southeast of Hawaii. It appears to have taken a similar path as Hurricane Hector did over a week ago when it brushed the islands.
