The US military presence in Syria should be reviewed once the Islamic State terror group (IS, banned in Russia) is eliminated, US ambassador to Pakistan David Hale said during his confirmation hearing for the position Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) The US military presence in Syria should be reviewed once the Islamic State terror group (IS, banned in Russia) is eliminated, US ambassador to Pakistan David Hale said during his confirmation hearing for the position Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs on Thursday.

When asked whether the withdrawal of US troops from Syria would be wise, Hale said, "My understanding, Sir, is that if they are there to deal with the Primary problem of the ISIS [Islamic State] threat, and that was justification for the deployment."

"I think once we accomplish that goal, we have not yet, we are getting closer appropriate to review our Syria policy including that aspect of it," Hale said.

The United States and its allies have been engaged in a military operation against terrorists in Syria since 2014. However, the United States operations in Syria have been conducted without authorization from the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
