Russia to Take Measures to Ensure Own Security - Foreign Ministry on New US Defense Budget

Moscow will take all measures to ensure its own security, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday commenting on certain provisions of the new US defense budget.

SVETLOGORSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) Moscow will take all measures to ensure its own security, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday commenting on certain provisions of the new US defense budget.

"On its part, Russia is taking and will take the necessary measures to reliably ensure its own security by all available means, both politico-diplomatic and military," she said.

Zakharova noted that the new US defense budget manifested Washington's course on global domination.

"The law on maximum spending on national defense in the 2019 fiscal year signed by the US president on August 13, essentially fixes the policy of increasing Washington's dominant role in the international arena through force," the spokeswoman said.

The $716-billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) makes available funding for Defense Department use, including money to accelerate US efforts to field a conventional prompt strike capability before 2022; strengthen the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI) with $6.3 billion; and provide $250 million in lethal defensive items for Ukraine. Moreover, the measure obligates Defense Secretary James Mattis to develop a plan that would deny Turkey the F-35 aircraft if Ankara purchases the Russian S-400 air defense system.
