Russia has not initiated the steps that led to the deterioration of bilateral relations with Greece, Moscow hopes that the situation will improve, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
SVETLOGORSK (Russia) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) Russia has not initiated the steps that led to the deterioration of bilateral relations with Greece, Moscow hopes that the situation will improve, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
On Friday, the Greek Foreign Ministry announced that Russia's decision to expel two Greek diplomats was "not based on any evidence" and also accused Russia of interfering in the country's internal affairs.
"Once again, I would like to emphasize that Russia has not initiated the steps that led to the deterioration of Russian-Greek relations, on the contrary, we remain committed to the development of comprehensive cooperation with Greece. We believe this situation is abnormal and temporary, we hope for its speedy improvement," Zakharova told a briefing.
The spokeswoman stressed that Russia had not interfered in Greece's internal affairs.
"Russia has never interfered in the internal affairs of Greece and its foreign policy. And if somebody wants to make it look this way, these people are not true friends of Greece," Zakharova said.
