Illinois Attorney General Surs Trump Tower Over Environmental Law Violations - Statement

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is suing Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago due to its failure to comply with environmental laws, the attorney general's office said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is suing Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago due to its failure to comply with environmental laws, the attorney general's office said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Madigan today announced she has filed a lawsuit against Trump International Hotel and Tower (Trump Tower) in Chicago for violating environmental laws and jeopardizing fish and aquatic life in the Chicago River," the release said.

The complaint alleges that Trump Tower, which sits along the Chicago River, dumps millions of gallons of dirty water into the river.

The facility did not complete a study required by the US Federal government of the impact it has on the river's fish population, according to the complaint. Moreover, the complaint said the Trump Tower should have also obtained a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

In June 2018, the environmental groups Sierra Club and Friends of the Chicago River expressed concerns about the fact that Trump Tower was likely breaching the Clean Water Act.

Following the filing of Madigan's lawsuit, the environmental groups also announced their intention to sue Trump Tower over violations of environmental laws.

The Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday that Trump Tower releases approximately 20 million gallons of water into the river, which is far more that other building located in Chicagos downtown area.
