WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) All individuals currently held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are properly detained, Combined Join Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Felix Gedney told reporters on Tuesday.
"All of the detainees that are being held by the SDF are currently being appropriately detained," Gedney said. "We, as the coalition, are calling on all nations to ensure we have a long term solution to ensure that those foreign terrorist fighters from that countries they dont become a threat again."
Gedney explained that the detainees are from more than 40 nations and some 600 foreign terrorist fighters are currently being held in detention.
In addition, Gedney said that a number of foreign fighters has largely decreased and that are no new fighters coming to the battle field in Syria.
"At the moment, weve seen the flow of foreign fighters into Syria and Iraq reduce hugely," Gedney said. "We are not aware of new fighters coming into the battle space at the moment."
The US-led coalition against the Islamic State has been carrying out strikes in Syria without the authorization of the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
The conflict in Syria has raged since 2011 as opposition and extremist groups, including terrorist organizations, have fought the Syrian Arab Army and other government forces in order to topple the Assad government.
