Hmeimim Base Air Defenses Destroy 5 Drones Launched by Syrian Militants - Russian Military

Russian air defenses at the Hmeimim airbase in Syria shot down on Monday five aerial drones launched by militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation, said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Russian air defenses at the Hmeimim airbase in Syria shot down on Monday five aerial drones launched by militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation, said.

"Over the past 24 hours, the air defense units at the Hmeimim airbase and the Aleppo City detected five unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs] launched from the territory controlled by illegal armed groups in the Idlib de-escalation zone," Tsygankov said at a daily briefing.

"The aerial targets were destroyed at a safe distance from the base," Tsygankov added.

According to the general, the incident incurred no casualties or material damage, and the operations at the base were not interrupted.
