Russia's Almaz-Antey Enters Defense News Top-10 Rating of Major Defense Companies

Russian state-owned arms manufacturer Almaz-Antey has for the first time entered the top-10 of the largest world manufacturers of military products, taking the eighth place in the ranking of the US specialized weekly Defense News.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Russian state-owned arms manufacturer Almaz-Antey has for the first time entered the top-10 of the largest world manufacturers of military products, taking the eighth place in the ranking of the US specialized weekly Defense News.

"Our concern again occupied the first place among Russian companies in the Defense news ranking and it clearly demonstrates the enormous importance of our enterprise's products for ensuring Russia's defense capability. The efforts of thousands of our employees are primarily focused on fulfilling the state defense order, creating promising air defense systems and complexes for the Russian Armed Forces," Almaz-Antey CEO Yan Novikov said, as quoted in the company's press release.

According to Defense News experts, the holding has significantly strengthened its positions in the world arms market and has maintained an indisputable leadership among the companies of the Russian defense industry.

Moscow-based Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) told Sputnik on Monday that Almaz-Antey managed to get into the prestigious list due to high worldwide demand for Russias air defense systems.

"In the air defense segment, Russia holds absolute leadership - the United States, NATO members and other countries with a developed military industry are lagging behind us. Inclusion in this rating indicates that we are already playing in the big league of the military industrial powers. This is a great achievement, given that this rating was compiled by the US-based Defense News, and the attitude toward us is clearly not complementary, but they have nothing to say against facts," CAWAT Director Igor Korotchenko said.

A large number of countries are buying Russias air defense and missile systems, the expert added, and noted that over 10 countries are currently on the waiting list for the S-400 Triumph air defense system.

The rating of the world's top-100 of military equipment manufacturers is prepared by Defense News since 2000 and is one of the most prominent ratings in the world. The rating is made depending on the volume of companies' revenues from military products.

The 2018 Top 100 rating also includes five other Russian defense manufacturers - United Aircraft Corporation (14th place), Tactical Missiles Corporation (25th place), Russian Helicopters holding (36th place), Uralvagonzavod (46th place) and Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern (48th place).
