Turkey Inbound Tourism Grows 30% in 2018 - Reports

Tourism in Turkey has risen by 30 percent, as compared to last year's numbers, and is one of the sectors which contribute the most to lowering the country's account deficit, local media reported on Monday, citing the Turkish authorities.

According to the Anadolu Agency, 40 million tourists are expected to have visited Turkey by the end of the year.

The authorities had a contribution target for the industry to reduce the existing account deficit by about 50 percent in 2019, the media added.

The news outlet specified that the increase was facilitated, among other things, by China declaring 2018 the Year of Turkish Tourism. Turkey witnessed a 97-percent growth in Chinese visitors in the first seven months of the year, as compared year-on-year to 2017, the media said.

The country was visited by over 32 million tourists in 2017, according to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
