Turkey Arrests Woman Suspected of Links to Russian Ambassador's Killer - Reports

Turkish security services have detained a woman over alleged ties to the assassin of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, local media reported on Monday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Turkish security services have detained a woman over alleged ties to the assassin of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, local media reported on Monday.

According to the Anadolu news agency, the woman is a member of the Gulen movement and the wife of an individual identified as the superior of Turkish police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas, the envoy's assassin.

The husband of the arrested suspect was detained in April.

Karlov was shot by Altintas in December 2016 at the opening of an art gallery exhibition in Ankara. The attacker was killed at the scene by the police. Though the investigation is still ongoing, the Turkish side has repeatedly voiced suspicions that the Gulen movement, considered by Ankara to be a terrorist organization and accused by the authorities of masterminding the 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey, is linked to the attack.
