Imran Khan to take oath as prime minister on Aug 18

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 10th August, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who has secured a simple majority in the polls required to form his government, is set to take the oath of prime minister on August 18.

This was confirmed by PTI Senator Faisal Javed who on Friday said that Imran Khan will take the oath as prime minister on August 18.

Earlier, Imran Khan had expressed the wish to take oath at a public place and Islamabad’s D-Chowk was being considered as a venue to hold the oath-taking ceremony. However, it could not get the president’s approval due to security concerns. Imran Khan has also refused to live in the PM House to cut expenses.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain has also postponed his three-day visit to Edinburgh to administer oath to incoming prime minister.

President Mamnoon's trip was scheduled for Aug 16 till Aug 19 while the oath is likely to be administered to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Aug 18.

The newly-elected members of National Assembly will take oath on Aug 13 after the President Mamnoon approved a summary to summon the session of the assembly.

The nominations papers for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will also be submitted on Aug 13.

The PTI emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly with 116 general seats while with the addition of the general and reserved seats of its allies the party claimed to have secured at least 173 seats, whereas Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party won 64 and 43 general seats of the lower house, respectively.
