SC issues contempt of court notice to Dr Aamir Liaquat

CJP said in remarks if we should suspend the victory notification of Aamir Liaquat.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 10th August, 2018) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued contempt of court notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA-elect and tv host Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain.

A hearing on Dr Aamir Liaquat’s hate speech on TV was held in the Supreme Court today.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that we should suspend the victory notification of Aamir Liaquat.

The CJP asked if a person who does not know what to speak on public forums should be in the Parliament.

A clip of Aamir Liaquat’s program was also played in the court upon CJP’s orders. Aamir Liaquat had used derogatory words for the owner of a TV channel as well.

The CJP while issuing a show cause notice to the TV host for his misleading and humiliating statements has directed him to submit a reply within two weeks.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for an indefinite period.

On Wednesday, Dr Aamir Liaquat was fined Rs 20,000 for failing to appear before the court.

In May, TV host Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain was banned for fueling sectarian debate during his Ramzan transmission.

People had criticized the TV host for fueling religious sentiments and sparking sectarian debate during his Ramzan show ‘Ramzan mein Bol’ on Bol TV.

Taking action over the content of the show, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned Liaquat for 30 days under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2012.

Earlier in 2017, PEMRA banned airing of Aamir Liaquat's programme `Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga' by BOL news channel for hate speech. However the show was aired in defiance of PERMRA's orders.
