Elections 2018: Challenging votes is now more difficult than ever

The candidate or polling agent challenging the vote will have to pay Rs 100 per vote in fee.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 24th July, 2018) The general elections are scheduled to be held tomorrow, July 25.

Polling will be held across the country on Wednesday, in which people will vote for their favourite candidates. With just one day in general elections, the political temperature in the country is at all-time high.

However, challenging votes after the election results has become more difficult and costly than ever. According to media reports, the candidate or polling agent challenging the vote will have to pay Rs 100 per vote in fee.

According to a news report published in a local newspaper, the presiding officer will submit the fee of the challenged votes to the Returning Officer. If a voter appears to be suspicious, he will not be issued a ballot paper and will be taken in police custody immediately.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has also issued instructions to the presiding officers regarding the challenging of vote. Challenged votes will be put in envelope number 7 instead of the ballot box. Such voters will be allowed to leave the polling station after registering in Form 44. The details of the challenged votes will be handed over to the Returning Officer.

Political parties and independent candidates concluded their election campaign as per ECP's deadline on Monday midnight. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan addressed political gatherings in different parts of the city while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz central leader Hamza Shahbaz held a rally from Mochi Gate to Data Darbar on last leg of their election campaign.

Candidates of Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal also held public gatherings, corner meetings and door-to-door campaign.

According to political analysts, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) are expected to have a strong competition in the general elections. However, PTI is stronger than the PMLN in many Constituencies due to which PTI is likely to win these elections.
