Bilawal Bhutto says never ending cycle of national tragedies must ultimately lead to the necessary consistent consensus on combating violent extremism

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 11th July, 2018) The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has suspended its political activities for today following the suicide blast in Peshawar that killed 20 people, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took to Twitter on Wednesday and said that he is at loss of words to express condolences, grief and outrage at the assassination of Shaheed Haroon Bilour son of Shaheed Bashir Bilour.

“Lost for words to express condolences, grief and outrage at the assassination of Shaheed Haroon Bilour son of Shaheed Bashir Bilour. Never ending cycle of national tragedies must ultimately lead to the necessary consistent consensus on combating violent extremism,” the PPP chairman tweeted.

In another tweet, he said, “In solidarity with the Bilour family & ANP I’ve suspended my political activities for today and Peshawar jalsa which was to be held tomorrow. Join ANP in reaffirming elections should be held on time.”

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also announced one-day mourning halted its political activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the death of ANP leader Haroon Bilour.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said the attack in Peshawar is highly deplorable and inhuman.

The entire country is upset over the death of ANP leader Haroon Bilour and others in the terrorist attack, he said, and added that the party shares the grief of the Bilour family and the ANP.

Fawad Chaudhry announced that PTI’s election campaign will remain suspended in the province today.

At least 20 people were killed and 62 others were injured as a suicide bomber blew himself up at an election rally of ANP at Yaka Toot area of the city.

The blast claimed life of Haroon Bilour, candidate of ANP for PK-78.

Following the attack, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed election on the provincial assembly seat PK-78.

According to ECP, new date for holding election in this constituency will be announced later.
