SC suspends tax charges on mobile cards

SC orders to be implemented from Wednesday midnight.  

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 11th June, 2018) All the taxes imposed by Federal board of Revenue (FBR) on mobile cards have been suspended.

According to media reports, the Supreme Court has suspended service charges and taxes on mobile cards while excise duty has also been suspended.

The Supreme Court orders will be implemented from Wednesday midnight.

On the charge of a Rs100 prepaid mobile card, a 19.5% federal excise duty was charged along with 12.5% withholding tax and 10% service/maintenance charge.

According to statistics revealed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in January this year, the number of mobile phone users stands at 144 million as compared to 142.5 million in October 2017.

The Supreme Court had taken suo-motu notice against mobile phone companies charging extra taxes.
