Dr Hasan Askari does not fit PMLN’s election plan: Journalist

Says PMLN wants to bring a criminal person who could save Shehbaz Sharif from corruption cases

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 8th June, 2018) About Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PMLN) reservations over the appointment of Prof Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi as Punjab caretaker chief minister, journalist Rauf Klasra said that the PMLN is intentionally making it controversial.

The journalist said that the PMLN wants to bring a criminal person or someone who could vandalize on election day.

Fellow journalist Amir Mateen said that the PMLN wants people like Fawad Hassan Fawad and Mushtaq Sukhera. Since Shehbaz Sharif is facing corruption cases of past ten years, the PMLN wants to bring someone who could save his corruption and property. Mateen further said that Hasan Askari does not fit PMLN’s plan about the general elections.

Whereas, Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi said on Thursday that holding free, fair and transparent elections was pivotal to strengthen democracy in the country and all-out efforts would be made in this regard.

Talking to a private news channel, he said every political party would be ensured level playing field in the elections so that they could run election campaigns independently. He said complaints from any political party regarding election process would be addressed adequately. The Punjab caretaker CM said holding transparent elections was his top priority and no compromise would be made in discharging duty.

The Election Commission of pakistan (ECP) had named Professor Dr Hassan Askari as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab on Thursday after the failure of parliamentary committee to reach consensus over the proposed candidates.

The PMLN rejected the Election Commission's decision naming Dr Hasan Askari as caretaker Punjab chief minister.

In a press conference held hours after the ECP chose Dr Askari for the interim slot, PMLN leaders voiced their reservations over his selection and called on the Commission to review its decision. Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who was succeeded by Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk as the caretaker premier last Friday, said Dr Askari's appointment as the caretaker Punjab CM would cast doubt over transparency in the upcoming general election.
