Sends legal notice to Ali Zafar demanding apology and confess to sexual harassment accusations
Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 12th May, 2018) Pakistani model and singer Meesha Shafi who had alleged fellow artist Ali Zafar of sexual harassment has responded to his legal notice.
Meesha also sent a legal notice to Ali Zafar in her reply to his notice. The notice has been sent by Meesha’s legal team. The notice stated that the allegations made on Ali are true and there is no plot behind them.
Meesha said in her notice that Ali harassed her at work. The notice demanded the singer to apologize to Meesha, confess to his mistakes and take back his legal notice.
Singer Meesha Shafi had alleged her colleague Ali Zafar of sexual harassment in a tweet last month.
Meesha said that she is sharing this because she believes that by speaking out about her own experience of sexual harassment, she will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society.
Using the #Metoo hashtag, Shafi added that it is not easy to speak out but it is harder to stay silent. “My conscience will not allow it anymore,” she added.
Ali Zafar had broken his silence on the matter when he had categorically denied all claims of harassment lodged against him by Meesha. The singer sent a legal notice of Rs100 million to Meesha Shafi. The actor maintained that Meesha had made false accusations against him of sexually harassing her. According to the notice, a defamation suit will be filed against Meesha upon her failure to issue an apology to Ali on electronic media within two weeks.
Advocate Ali Sibtain Fazli, who is the legal counsel of Ali Zafar, said the media will be informed of further proceedings in the case.
Ali Zafar's bandmates refute Meesha's claims of harassment at jam session The Coke Studio singer began his official statement by saying, "He is the father of a young girl and a young boy, a husband to a wife and a son to a mother. I am a man that has stood up for myself, my family, my colleagues and friends countless times in the face of slander, defamation and general unkindness." Ali Zafar in his tweet further said, "I intend to take this through the courts of law and to address this professionally and seriously rather than to lodge any allegations here."
