Police given free hand in Asma murder case: PTI MNA Shaharyar Afridi

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Shaharyar Afridi said on Tuesday that the provincial police had been given a free hand to pursue and arrest the murderer of Asma.

KOHAT (Pakistan Point News - 30th Jan, 2018) : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Shaharyar Afridi said on Tuesday that the provincial police had been given a free hand to pursue and arrest the murderer of Asma. Speaking to media personnel, Shaharyar Afridi said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police was completely free and was not under any sort of pressure or political influence. "Please do not make this issue political," said Afridi. "The Federal government should contact the Saudi authorities in order to arrest the culprit," he added.

Afridi also called upon Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal to support IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with regard to the case. Asma was allegedly murdered by Mujahid Afridi for turning down his wedding proposal. According to police, Mujahid Afridi is the nephew of the president of PTI's Kohat district. The murder has been vehemently condemned by politicians, media personalities and the civil society. In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women said that depriving someone of life is the violation of fundamental constitutional right and calls for setting high standards of legal action against those guilty of its violation.

The FIR has been lodged against the accused and the Commission is following up on the case. In this regard, the Commission has written to IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offering the provincial government all support required with regard to the case within its mandate. The Commission shall be closely observing the progress and developments on the case and looks forward to seeing exemplary punishment given to the culprit to curb any further crimes of this nature.
