Heads of Teaching Hospitals, SHIs directed to prepare duty roster of doctors

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Punjab, Najam Ahmed Shah has directed the heads of all the Teaching Hospitals and Specialized Healthcare Institutions (SHIs) to prepare monthly duty schedule of all the professors and the consultants for OPD and this duty roster should also be shared with the department and implemented in letter and spirit.

LAHORE, (Pakistan Point News - 27th Jan, 2018) : Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Punjab, Najam Ahmed Shah has directed the heads of all the Teaching Hospitals and Specialized Healthcare Institutions (SHIs) to prepare monthly duty schedule of all the professors and the consultants for OPD and this duty roster should also be shared with the department and implemented in letter and spirit. He categorically said that the vice chancellors of medical universities, principals of the medical colleges and medical superintendents of the teaching hospitals would directly be responsible for implementation of the duty schedule for which they are being authorized to use their powers.

Secretary Health further said that official duty hours must be observed in the hospitals and privacy of the patients coming in the outpatient department also be maintained. The Secretary SH&ME stated this while presiding over a high level video link meeting of Vice Chancellors of the Medical Universities, Principals of the Medical Colleges and Medical Superintendents/ Executive Directors of the Teaching Hospitals and Specialized Healthcare Institutions to review the performance of the hospitals and utilization of medicines budget by these institutions here on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed and evaluated the outdoor facilities for the patients, procurement and utilization of medicines budget, laboratory facilities and other patient welfare related affairs came under discussion during the long hour meeting. Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah said that the department has tried to free the teaching hospitals administration from manual work of clerical staff and introduced software by using the information technology in every sector to improve the efficiency of the hospitals.

He further said that special indicators for monitoring the hospitals performance are being prepared for which a software would soon be introduced. Mr. Shah further directed that blood samples of the patients should not be handed over to the attendance for carrying these samples to the laboratory. He said that collection points must be established for this purpose and the hospital staff should delivered these samples in the laboratory. He also directed to contact with concerned officers of the Drug Testing Laboratory for getting early samples reports for the medicines sent to the DTLs by the teaching hospital.

Najam Ahmed Shah expressed his concern that the senior doctors do not observed duty hours in the outdoors due to that rush of patients accumulated and the doctors prescribed medicines to the patients within few seconds due to patients load. He directed that a software and gauge system also be prepared to check the pilferage of medical gases. The Secretary SH&ME directed that from the next financial year central procurement of medicines should be conducted for the Allied Hospitals of Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi for saving the time and ensuring the availability of medicines in the hospital simultaneously.

He also directed that seasonal Influenza counter established in the teaching hospitals should remain functional round the clock and strict implementation on the SOPs for the treatment of the patents and for protection of the hospital staff be ensured. Najam Ahmed Shah also directed to rationalize the use of operation theatres and optimum utilization of OTs must be ensured by load management. He also directed that every hospital should create individual demands to increase the seats of pharmacists according to their bed capacity. The Secretary SH&ME was of the view that recently government has provided 6000 nurses and human resource of Management Cadre for further improving the management and the performance of the hospitals to provide maximum relief to the patients.
