SSP Rao Anwar submits Naqeebullah's 'criminal record' to probe body

SSP Malir Rao Anwar appeared before a departmental inquiry committee on Friday in relation to the controversial killing of a suspected terrorist in a police encounter

KARACHI,(Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2018) SSP Malir Rao Anwar appeared before a departmental inquiry committee on Friday in relation to the controversial killing of a suspected terrorist in a police encounter. SSP Anwar, in a media talk on January 13, had claimed to have shot dead four alleged terrorists in a police encounter at Shah Latif Town. Appearing before the committee today, Anwar submitted the deceased's criminal record to the investigators.

He said a kidnapping for ransom case against Naqeebullah, registered in 2014, has been discovered. He added that the witnesses of the kidnapping case, in which Mehsud was allegedly nominated, will also record their statements. The SSP said that "militants" named Abid Machhar, Irshad Masood, Maulvi Yar Mohammad along with four "unidentified terrorists" had also been named in the FIR. He claimed that Mehsud's criminal activities were on record, however, certain elements were trying to present the latter as an innocent citizen to frame Anwar for political reasons.

"Those who work honestly have to bear such allegations and challenges," he said, adding that revenge is being taken against him for taking action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member Haleem Adil Sheikh. "He was 100 per cent a terrorist," Anwar claimed, alleging that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was trying to malign him because he had lodged two FIRs against PTI member Haleem Adil Sheikh. He asked why the deceased's family did not submit a missing person application in any police station if he did disappear on Jan 3.

Separately, DIG East Sultan Khwaja said the committee will submit its report to the Sindh IG in three days. He added that the deceased's family has been informed of recording their statement and since this is an open inquiry, any eyewitness can come forward to record his or her statement. The funeral prayers for the deceased were offered in his native city of Tank, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Thursday evening. A large number of people from Mehsud and Burki tribes attended the prayers, at which relatives and friends of the deceased were seen overwhelmed by grief and sorrow. Protests were held over the suspected extrajudicial killing in Tank, Bannu, Zhob and DI Khan. The protesters demanded the chief justice of Pakistan to take a suo motu notice of the incident and form a judicial commission to probe into it.
