Heatwave alert issued across Sindh as temperatures may hit 51°C

Met Office says a strong high-pressure system developing in upper atmosphere is likely to trigger moderate to severe heatwave conditions across most districts of Sindh from June 8 to June 12

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 8th, 2026) A severe heatwave alert has been issued across Sindh, with temperatures expected to soar as high as 51°C in parts of the province over the coming days, the Meteorological Department said on Monday.

The Met Office said that a strong high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere is likely to trigger moderate to severe heatwave conditions across most districts of Sindh from June 8 to June 12.

In Karachi, heatwave conditions are expected to persist from June 9 to June 12, with maximum temperatures likely to range between 39°C and 42°C during this period.

The alert warns that extremely high temperatures between 48°C and 51°C may be recorded in several upper and central districts, including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze.

In southern and southeastern districts such as Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, and Sujawal, temperatures are expected to remain in the range of 42°C to 45°C.

The Met Office further cautioned that intense heat may also trigger dust storms and gusty winds at isolated locations across the province’s plains.

Citizens, particularly children, women, and the elderly, have been advised to take precautionary measures. Authorities have urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, and refrain from exposure to direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm.
