Electro-Optical 2 (EO-2) satellite to enhance space and earth observation capabilities
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 12nd, 2026) Pakistan’s national space agency, SUPARCO, has successfully launched the locally-developed Electro-Optical 2 (EO-2) satellite, marking a significant advancement in the country’s space technology capabilities.
The EO-2 satellite was launched from China’s Yangjiang Sea Shore Center and is designed to strengthen Pakistan’s earth observation and imaging abilities. According to SUPARCO, the satellite will provide critical data for resource management, strategic planning, and disaster preparedness.
A SUPARCO spokesperson said the launch is a milestone for Pakistan’s space expertise and will expand the country’s satellite fleet, improve the continuity and accuracy of observations, and support scientific and developmental applications nationwide. The spokesperson also highlighted that EO-2 demonstrates Pakistan’s growing self-reliance in satellite manufacturing.
This achievement follows the launch of the EO-1 satellite in January 2025, which was also deployed from a Chinese launch center. EO-1 was designed to assist in disaster response, agriculture, urban planning, and natural resource monitoring, including food security and water management.
With EO-2, Pakistan aims to further enhance its satellite capabilities, improve monitoring of natural resources, and provide timely data for disaster management and strategic development initiatives.
The successful launch of EO-2 underscores SUPARCO’s continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s position in space technology and advance the country’s scientific and technological infrastructure.
