KP govt increases education budget to Rs363 billion for FY2025-26

Funds will be used for renovation of classrooms and provision of teaching materials for 5.9 million students in 32,500 schools

PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 13rd, 2025) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has increased the education budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 from Rs327 billion to Rs363 billion, marking an 11% rise compared to the current fiscal year.

Presenting the provincial budget in the KP Assembly, the government announced special allocations for the provision of basic facilities in schools across the province.

Funds will be used for the renovation of classrooms and provision of teaching materials for 5.9 million students in 32,500 schools. Additionally, efforts will be made to promote extracurricular activities.

A sum of Rs1.593 billion has been allocated for female teachers in girls' community schools. Moreover, Rs8.545 billion has been earmarked for the provision of free textbooks, and a girls’ cadet college will be established in Dera Ismail Khan.

An amount of Rs855 million has been allocated for the preservation and restoration of 10 historic schools in the province. The government has also set a target to enroll 50% of out-of-school children during the upcoming fiscal year.

To address the shortage of teachers, Rs1 billion has been allocated to be utilized through parent-teacher councils.

The budget for higher education has been increased from Rs36 billion to Rs50 billion. An allocation of Rs2.772 billion will be spent on transforming public colleges into centers of applied sciences and technology.

Furthermore, the government will establish five new colleges at a cost of Rs3.5 billion and has increased the university budget from Rs3 billion to Rs10 billion. An additional Rs1.24 billion has also been allocated to the Higher Education Scholarship Endowment Fund.
