Qatar's PM reports progress in hostage negotiations amid escalating Israel-Hamas conflict

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has made these remarks during a press conference alongside his Turkish counterpart.

DOHA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Oct 25th, 2023) Qatar's Prime Minister stated on Wednesday that there has been notable progress in negotiations regarding the more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas during their October 7 attack in southern Israel.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, made these remarks during a press conference alongside his Turkish counterpart. He expressed optimism for potential breakthroughs in securing the release of the hostages in the near future.

Qatar has been engaged in constructive discussions with both Israel and Hamas, resulting in the release of four hostages previously held by Hamas, including two Israeli women on Monday.

Working in conjunction with the United States, Qatar has taken the lead in mediating talks between Hamas and Israeli authorities to facilitate the release of the hostages. Israel, in the meantime, is preparing for a ground assault on the region.

In Doha, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan voiced his concerns, warning that an Israeli ground operation in Gaza could escalate the conflict into a tragic massacre. Fidan also criticized those who support Israel's actions under the guise of solidarity, referring to them as "accomplices to its crimes."

Gaza health officials report that more than 5,700 Palestinians, primarily civilians, have lost their lives due to Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip. The toll on Tuesday exceeded 700 people, marking it as the highest daily casualty count since the conflict began.

Hamas government officials disclosed that at least 80 people were tragically lost overnight, as the Israeli military responded to unprecedented Hamas attacks inside Israel on October 7, resulting in the loss of at least 1,400 lives and extensive damage to neighborhoods in the blockaded territory.
