"Congratulations Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau on your victory in the elections! I look forward to continue working with you to further strengthen India-Canada relations, as well as our cooperation on global and multilateral issues," Modi tweeted.
The election to the 338-member Canadian lower house, the House of Commons, was held on Monday.
With nearly 100% of the ballots counted, Trudeau's Liberal Party has gained 158 seats in the legislative body but failed to secure the unilateral majority of 170 mandates.
