These activities are supported by the AlUla Manara team, affiliated with the Royal Commission for AlUla, which oversees a variety of astronomy programs and events. The team contributes to raising public awareness of astronomy and enhancing tourism experiences centered on stargazing and celestial phenomena by providing engaging scientific and interactive content that connects astronomical knowledge with AlUla's rich cultural heritage.
AlUla has earned international recognition as a Dark Sky Destination from DarkSky International, becoming the first destination in the middle East to receive the designation. The accreditation recognizes the governorate's exceptionally clear skies and minimal light pollution, allowing visitors to observe the Milky Way, planets, and stars with remarkable clarity. Visitors can also take part in guided telescope-viewing experiences and hear traditional Bedouin stories about the stars, highlighting the enduring relationship between the people of AlUla and the night sky across generations.
