Arar, July (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 13 يوليو 2026ء) The little owl (Athene noctua) belongs to the true owl family and is distinguished by its rounded head, flat crown, and long legs. Its plumage is predominantly grayish-brown with white spots covering the upper parts of its body, complemented by bright yellow eyes, a pale yellow beak, and feathers covering most of its pale yellowish-white legs.
Measuring between 21 and 23 centimeters in length, the little owl shows no significant physical differences between males and females. It is most active at dusk and night, relying on its keen hearing and eyesight to hunt for prey.
The little owl inhabits open and semi-desert environments, nesting in natural cavities in rocks and trees. It also adapts to a variety of habitats by using abandoned buildings and old burrows for shelter and nesting.
Wildlife specialists say the presence of the little owl in Northern Borders reflects the health of the area’s natural habitats and the availability of conditions that support wildlife.
They also highlight the importance of preserving the species’ natural environments and reducing practices that may threaten biodiversity, in line with the Kingdom’s environmental and wildlife conservation objectives.
