Hills: A Reflection of Natural and Historical Heritage

Rafha, June (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 30 يونيو 2026ء) Hills vary between sandy and rocky formations, each with unique characteristics. In the desert areas of Northern Borders Region, sandy hills appear as dunes shaped by winds that transport and accumulate sand grains in wave-like or pyramidal forms.

Researcher, historian, archaeologist, and tour guide Khalaf Al-Ghufaili told the Saudi Press Agency that hills can exceed 200 meters in relative height, with slopes exceeding 3 degrees. He noted that most hills are composed of sedimentary rocks, and that Bedouin communities historically used some hills near Rafha Governorate to extract rock salt.

Al-Ghufaili explained that hills are not only significant geological features but have also served as strategic locations for human settlement throughout history. Today, they contribute to environmental and tourism diversity, attracting adventurers, geological exploration enthusiasts, and those interested in human history.
