On World Statistics Day: Digital Transformation and Global Methodologies Drive Statistical Development in the Kingdom

Jeddah, October (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 20 اكتوبر 2025ء) The Kingdom marks the occasion by showcasing its remarkable advancements in the statistical field, its adoption of cutting-edge international systems and methodologies, and its efforts to raise public awareness and confidence in official statistics at both the national and global levels.

Supported by the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Kingdom has built a modern and integrated statistical ecosystem characterized by advanced technologies and comprehensive frameworks. Through the Cabinet’s approval of the new statistical system, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) has achieved successive milestones and a qualitative leap, establishing itself as the official and Primary source of statistical information in the Kingdom.

These achievements have also contributed to the Kingdom’s progress in various international indicators and its leadership roles in global statistical bodies. Among its accomplishments are the Kingdom’s election as co-chair of the United Nations on Data Governance Working Group, its membership in the High-Level Group for Partnership, Coordination, and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB), its notable advancement in the 2024 Open Data Inventory Report, and its selection to host the Sixth United Nations World Data Forum in Riyadh in November 2026.

The statistics and data sector in the Kingdom plays a vital role in organizing the production of data, information, studies, and statistical research. It is led by GASTAT and supported by a network of statistical centers and units established within government entities and private sector institutions.

GASTAT provides its statistical services through an extensive digital database that includes data, indicators, and statistics across multiple sectors. The database is available in various formats and media, ensuring clients can access reliable, transparent, and integrated statistical information that supports evidence-based decision-making and national development.
