Rare Al-Sarh Tree Found in King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve

Riyadh, October (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 20 اكتوبر 2025ء) This significant finding emerged from the authority’s ongoing field surveys, which focus on monitoring rare plant species, protecting threatened flora, and promoting the sustainability of natural habitats.

The authority explained that the discovery was made in the Wadi Al-Shawki area. The tree is a rare species native to arid and semi-arid environments, notable for its exceptional resilience to drought and harsh climatic conditions.

Authority CEO Eng. Maher Al-Gothmi emphasized that the discovery underscores the success of the authority’s scientific approach to monitoring and documenting the natural environment.

He added that the authority initiated a comprehensive protection plan following the discovery, which includes fencing and regular monitoring of the site, installing an informational sign highlighting the tree’s ecological significance, and collecting seeds for nurseries, with plans to replant them in similar locations within the reserve.

Al-Sarh tree belongs to the Capparisaceae family, a group threatened with extinction due to overexploitation and overgrazing. It plays a vital role in enriching vegetation cover, supporting wildlife nourishment, and maintaining ecological balance in dry regions.
