New York, July (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 23 يوليو 2025ء) The event follows the UN-Water's recognition of Saudi Arabia as one of the countries showing clear and measurable progress in the integrated water resources management indicator for SDG 6.
The Kingdom's delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture for Water Dr. Abdulaziz AlShaibani, who presented Saudi Arabia's approach to accelerating progress on SDG 6 during a special event dedicated to the launch of the UN-Water success stories report, which highlights countries making significant strides in achieving SDG 6. Saudi Arabia was recognized in the report as a success case for its rapid advancement in integrated water resources management.
AlShaibani emphasized that the Kingdom's efforts have resulted in notable improvements in efficiency, coordination, and service quality between 2017 and 2023. During this period, the Kingdom's integrated water resources management indicator increased from 57% to 83%, marking one of the fastest global increases under SDG indicator 6.5.1.
He also underscored that the water sector benefits from strong support by the Kingdom's leadership, enabling significant structural and organizational advancements aimed at achieving sustainable water management. Backed by substantial financial investments to expand and modernize water infrastructure, these efforts have helped increase the Kingdom's "enabling environment" score from 42% in 2017 to 87% in 2023.
