World Fisheries Day Celebrated at UVAS Ravi Campus

LAHORE (Pakistan Point News - 27th Nov, 2018 ) The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences(UVAS)observed World Fisheries Day in collaboration with US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and American Soybean Association (ASA).

Stakeholders from academia, industry, Punjab Fisheries Department and progressive fish farmers attended the events held at Ravi Campus, Pattoki. The day started with fish netting and then UVASPro-Vice-Chancellor Prof DrMasoodRabbani led a walk whileChairman Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Dr Noor Khan, RSN JanjuaUSSEC, Representatives from Aquaculture Feed Industry; Supreme group-Sahiwal, Super Punjab-Multan and Oryza Organics-Lahore and a large number of students and faculty members were present.

On the occasion guests visited the stalls of fish value added products prepared by students and appreciated their efforts. Later in seminars,Prof MasoodRabbaniwhile addressing the audience highlighted the importance of fish and shared that aquaculture sector is actively developing like other growing sectors in Pakistan and stresses that there is a lot be done by the industry. Mr R.S.N Janjua gave a brief introduction about the role of soy-based feed in aquaculture of Pakistan. Many informative lectures on mon-sex tilapia culture, fish nutrition and hatcheries in Pakistan were delivered by the Industry people and stakeholders. The stakeholders appreciated the efforts of UVAS to promote the aquaculture in Pakistan.
