Iran, Russia Discussing Joint Production of Railroad Cars, Locomotives - Minister

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) Tehran is discussing with Moscow the possibility of creating a joint venture to produce railroad cars and locomotives, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami told Sputnik Iran on Friday.

"[We] are holding negotiations on creating a joint venture to produce passenger and cargo railroad cars as well as locomotives," Eslami said, expressing a hope for a successful outcome of the talks in the near future.

The minister pointed out that Tehran and Moscow continued their negotiations on Iran's purchases of Russian passenger and cargo railroad cars.

Earlier this week, Eslami met Ramazan Abdulatipov, Russian president's special representative for humanitarian and economic cooperation with the Caspian states, with the sides having discussed development of bilateral cooperation despite the recently re-introduced US sanctions against Iran.

In May, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, and reimpose its sanctions against Iran that had been lifted under the agreement. The first round of restrictions came into force in August and the second one - on November 5.

Despite Washington's unilateral move, other parties to the deal China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the European Union have expressed their commitment to the Iran nuclear accord.
