The police in Paris detained four people on Tuesday over the destruction of city property during a protest rally, according to local media reports.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th October, 2018) The police in Paris detained four people on Tuesday over the destruction of city property during a protest rally, according to local media reports.

A Sputnik correspondent reported earlier in the day that the police had used tear gas against a number of black clad people who caused disturbance during a rally against the French government's social policies. The rioters were spraying out some irritant that caused protesters to sneeze and cough.

One protester and one police officer were lightly injured, the BFMTV broadcaster reported.

The police reportedly estimate the number of people who took part in the rally in Paris to be about 11,500, while the French General Confederation of Labour (CGT) believes that roughly 50,000 gathered for the protest.

The rally was launched at the behest of a number of trade unions, including the CGT, Workers' Force (Force Ouvriere (FO)) and the Solidaires group of trade unions.
